Fittonia, is a spreading evergreen perennial with delicately veined, deep-green leaves. you can also readily find varieties with veins in red, pink, white, and green. Nerve plant is a low-growing creeper that is a perfect fit for terrariums or bottle gardens. Although the slow-growing plant rarely flowers when grown as an indoor houseplant, it does occasionally bloom with insignificant reddish or yellowish-white spikes.

  1. Appearance: The plant is known for its colorful, veined leaves. The most common varieties have deep green leaves with contrasting pink, red, or white veins. There are also varieties with green and white or green and red veins.
  2. Size: Fittonias are relatively small, usually growing to about 6-12 inches in height. They make great plants for terrariums or small pots.
  3. Care:
    • Light: fittonia prefer bright, indirect light. Too much direct sunlight can scorch their leaves.
    • Water: Fittonias like their soil to be consistently moist but not waterlogged. Fittonia does not need a lot of food. They are sensitive to drying out, so regular watering is important.
    • Humidity: They thrive in high humidity. If your home is dry, consider using a humidifier or placing the plant on a pebble tray with water.
    • Temperature: They prefer warm temperatures, ideally between 65-80°F (18-27°C). They should be protected from cold drafts and sudden temperature changes.
  4. Propagation: Fittonias can be propagated through stem cuttings. Simply take a cutting with a few leaves and place it in water or soil until roots develop.
  5. Problems: They can be susceptible to pests like spider mites and aphids, and they can suffer from leaf drop if conditions are not ideal.

Overall, Fittonias are relatively easy to care for as long as you provide them with the right environment and keep an eye on their moisture and humidity needs. They can add a beautiful touch of color and texture to any indoor space!
